Dr. Erik J. Grotbeck
Dr. Grotbeck was born and raised in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Bacteriology. As an undergraduate and graduate student he worked in a genetics research laboratory, which led to publications in several top rated scientific journals including Nature. In 2001, Dr. Grotbeck earned a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from UW-Madison.
After graduation Dr. Grotbeck completed a one-year internship at the California Animal Hospital, a 24 hour emergency and referral surgical center. He then began private practice in Colorado while his wife, Ursula, completed her PhD in Neuroscience at Colorado State University. In 2006 they left the Rocky Mountains and relocated to Oregon and have been happily living in the Pacific Northwest ever since.
Dr. Grotbeck enjoys building lasting relationships with clients while providing quality health care throughout all life stages. He is particularly fond of working with senior pets and managing the health issues associated with aging. Experience has taught him the value of both preventive care as well as the benefits of medical treatment for management of acute and chronic health problems.
When he’s not working, Dr. Grotbeck enjoys gardening, hiking, adventure races, exploring the amazing Portland food scene and spending time with his family. He and his wife have one daughter, Annalina. They also have two loving Pointers and an orphaned farm cat that has been part of the family since 1999.
